Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for TIZWAY

Bay. c, 2005 Tiznow – Bethany by Dayjur

Tizway is a multiple New York grade one winner, who captured one of the fastest ever renewals of the sire-making Metropolitan Mile. He is by the exceptional sire Tiznow, and his dam, a multiple stakes producer, is by a Champion Sprinter from the prolific stakes producing family of Will’s Way, Willa On The Move, and grade one sire Citidancer.

Recommend Crosses

Tizway has Mr. Prospector in the center of his pedigree through his daughter, the Champion Sprinter, Gold Beauty. This would invite crossing Tizway back over branches of Mr. Prospector that have worked under Tiznow. Gone West would be particularly interesting here, and can be found through Elusive Quality, Grand Slam, Mr. Greeley, Speightstown (particularly interesting with Storm Cat in his pedigree), and Proud Citizen. Other branches of Mr. Prospector that have done well under Tiznow are Seeking the Gold (sire of Mutakddim, Petionville, and Cape Town), Woodman (both Mr. Prospector/Buckpasser crosses, as are Miswaki and Mining), and Carson City. The second dam of Tiznow’s Champion Folklore is by Fappiano, who is by Mr. Prospector out of a mare by Dr. Fager (by Rough’ n Tumble, the broodmare sire of Tiznow’s male line ancestor, In Reality). Fappiano sons with In Reality, such as Unbridled (sire of Unbridled’s Song), Cahill Road, Pentelicus and Rubiano (granddam is a sister to Relaunch, the grandsire of Tiznow) look particularly promising. Other Fappiano sources are Quiet American (inbred to Dr. Fager, and from the family of Relaunch's outstanding son, Honour and Glory), Cryptoclearance and Roy. Crafty Prospector, who also carries In Reality, might work well here. Tiznow has also sired grade one winner, Colonel John, out of a mare by Turkoman, from the Alydar, branch of the Raise a Native line.

Storm Cat appears in five Tiznow graded stakes winners, and would be particularly good with Storm Cat/Mr. Prospector and Raise a Native crosses, such as Tale of the Cat, Storm Boot. Storm Creek and Forest Wildcat, and would also be good through Hennessy and Tabasco Cat (both broodmare sires of graded winners by Tiznow), Stormy Atlantic, Stormin Fever, and Forestry, From other branches of the Northern Dancer, Tiznow has graded stakes winners from mares by Dixieland Band and his son, Dixie Brass (also suggesting Dixie Union, and, to inbreed to Tizway’s family, Citidancer); and stakes winners out of mares by Deputy Minister sons Dehere and Salt Lake.

Tiznow is out of a mare by a son of Seattle Slew, but he has enjoyed success when crossed back over mares from this line, suggesting trying Tizway with Seattle Slew line mares. Two branches of Seattle Slew that have worked under Tiznow are Slewpy, and A.P. Indy. The A.P. Indy line could be brought in through Pulpit (sire 400  of Sky Mesa and Tapit, who brings in a sister to Tiznow’s grandsire, Relaunch), Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Old Trieste, Stephen Got Even, and Jump Start. Other Seattle Slew sources include Capote (sire of a stakes winning half-sister to Tizway, and available through Boston Harbor, and Matty G), Vindication, Slew o’Gold, Septieme Ciel and Doneraile Court. It would also be interesting to bring in Seattle Slew through Gold Legend (giving inbreeding to Champion Sprinter Gold Beauty). Seattle Slew is a Bold Ruler (by Nasrullah) line horse, and Tiznow is also sire of Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed, who is out of a mare by Notebook (from the Raja Baba branch of Bold Ruler. From the Caro branch of the Nasrullah line Tiznow has sired Canadian Champion Bear Now (out of a mare by In Excess, the sire of Indian Charlie). Bold Ruler though Secretariat appears to be a strain that works very well with Tiznow, appearing in ten of his stakes winners, five graded.
