Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for TIZWAY

Tizway is a multiple New York grade one winner, who captured one of the fastest ever renewals of the sire-making Metropolitan Mile (G1). He is by the exceptional sire Tiznow, and his dam, a multiple stakes producer, is by a Champion Sprinter from the prolific stakes producing family of Will’s Way, Willa On The Move, and grade one sire Citidancer.

Tizway has Mr. Prospector in the center of his pedigree through his daughter, the Champion Sprinter, Gold Beauty. This would invite crossing Tizway back over branches of Mr. Prospector that have worked under Tiznow.  Tiznow sired grade one winner Gemologist out of a mare by Mr. Prospector himself, and Tiznow and his sons have worked well with a number of other branches of that line, with grade one winners out of mares by Woodman and Lord Carson, graded stakes winners from daughters of Mr. Greeley, Grand Slam, Pentelicus and Smart Strike, and stakes winners out of mares by Seeking the Gold (sire of Mutakddim, Petionville, and Cape Town), Unbridled’s Song, West By West, Unbridled Jet and Polish Pro. Lord Carson is by Carson City, a horse who has been very positive influence for Tiznow, and who is also available through City Zip (giving a double of Relaunch, the grandsire of Tiznow), Cuvee, Five Star Day and Good and Tough. Mr. Greeley, Grand Slam and West By West are all by Gone West, and he can also be introduced through Elusive Quality, Speightstown, and Proud Citizen. Pentelicus is a three-quarters brother to Unbridled, and Unbridled’s Song and Unbridled Jet are sons of that horse, while Unbridled’s sire, Fappiano, is sire of the second dam of Tiznow’s Champion Folklore. Unbridled’s Song sources including Dunkirk, Even The Score, First Defence, Old Fashioned, Rockport Harbor, Half Ours and Songandaprayer. Unbridled could also be brought in through Empire Maker, Broken Vow and Grindstone (sire of Birdstone). Other Fappiano sources are Quiet American, Cryptoclearance (sire of Victory Gallop; grandsire of Candy Ride), Rubiano (whose granddam is a sister to Relaunch, the grandsire of Tiznow) and Roy. Mr. Prospector is by Raise a Native, and Tiznow has also sired grade one winner, Colonel John, out of a mare by Turkoman, from the Alydar, branch of the Raise a Native line. Alydar is less likely to be found in the broodmare sire line, but he can be found elsewhere in the pedigrees of several good Tiznow runners – in all he is in the pedigree of five of TIznow’s grade one winners – and his presence is definitely a positive.

Storm Cat appears in the dams of six Tiznow graded stakes winners, including Champion Folklore, and would be particularly good with Storm Cat/Mr. Prospector and Raise a Native crosses, such as Tale of the Cat (sire of Lion Heart), Storm Boot. Storm Creek and Forest Wildcat, and would also be positive through Hennessy (sire of Johannesburg and Henny Hughes, and grandsire of Scat Daddy) and Tabasco Cat (both broodmare sires of graded winners by Tiznow), Stormy Atlantic, Stormin Fever, and Forestry. Storm Cat might also be brought in through Giant’s Causeway (sire of First Samurai), Menifee (by Harlan, also the sire of Harlan’s Holiday), Bernstein, Freud, Bluegrass Cat, Yankee Gentleman, Pure Prize and Catienus. From other branches of the Northern Dancer, Tiznow has graded stakes winners from mares by Dixieland Band himself, and his son, Dixie Brass, and a stakes winner and grade one performer out of a mare by Dixie Union. This also suggests trying mares by Citidancer (and his son, Disco Rico) and Hook and Ladder. and stakes winners out of mares by Dehere and Salt Lake (both by Deputy Minister, who could also appeal through Awesome Again and Touch Gold).  Tizway himself is out a mare descending from Northern Dancer through Danzig, and that would suggest crossing back over mares descending from Danzig through such as by Ascot Knight (broodmare sire of a graded stakes winner by a son of Tiznow), suggesting trying daughters of such as Belong to Me, Boundary, Langfuhr, Pine Bluff, War Chant, Exchange Rate, War Front and Hard Spun.

Tiznow is out of a mare by a son of Seattle Slew, but he has enjoyed success when crossed back over mares from this line, suggesting trying Tizway with Seattle Slew line mares. Two branches of Seattle Slew that have worked under Tiznow are Slewpy, and A.P. Indy.  The A.P. Indy line could be brought in through Pulpit (sire of Sky Mesa and Tapit, who brings in a sister to Tiznow’s grandsire, Relaunch), Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Old Trieste, Stephen Got Even, and Jump Start. Other Seattle Slew sources include Capote (sire of a stakes winning half-sister to Tizway, and available through Boston Harbor, and Matty G), Vindication, Slew o’Gold, Septieme Ciel and Doneraile Court. It would also be interesting to bring in Seattle Slew through Gold Legend (giving inbreeding to Champion Sprinter Gold Beauty). Seattle Slew is a Bold Ruler (by Nasrullah) line horse, and Tiznow is also sire of Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed, who is out of a mare by Notebook (from the Raja Baba branch of Bold Ruler. From the Caro branch of the Nasrullah line Tiznow has sired Canadian Champion Bear Now (out of a mare by In Excess, the sire of Indian Charlie). Bold Ruler though Secretariat appears to be a strain that works very well with Tiznow, appearing in ten of his stakes winners, five graded.

Tiznow is an In Reality line sire, but is responsible for grade one winner Tough Tiz’s Sister out of a mare by In Reality son Taylor’s Falls. He might also work over mares from the Valid Appeal branch of In Reality. Tiznow’s sire, Cee's Tizzy, is sire of a stakes winner out of a mare by Great Above (who is bred on the reverse cross to In Reality). Great Above can also be brought in as the sire of Holy Bull and the broodmare sire of Housebuster. It would also be worth considering Housebuster’s sire, Mt. Livermore. He is a son of Blushing Groom, and Tiznow also has a grade one performer out of a mare by Blushing Groom son Rahy
