“Sliver” slices way to sharp maiden score at the Spa

Tiz Wonderful continued to rack up winners on Friday when Sliver and Onions rolled to a four-length win in a 1 1/8-mile maiden special weight affair.

With 33 winners to date, Tiz Wonderful is the #3 Sophomore Sire of winners, led by the stakes winner and Grade 2 placed filly My Happy Face.

After finishing second in a pair of one-turn races at Belmont, Sliver and Onions found the nine furlong two turns at Saratoga to his liking. Kept off the rail at varying degrees for the entire trip, the gray or roan colt stalked in third until hitting the stretch. Cornelio Velasquez asked for his run at that point to forge ahead at the eighth pole, then drawing away smartly to get the trip in 1:51 flat.

Bred by Twin Hopes Farm, Sliver and Onions picked up $51,000 for his owner DMZ Racing Stable.
