Awesome Patriot to shuttle to Haras Santa Sara in Chile

Monday, June 29, 2015
Spendthrift Farm stallion Awesome Patriot, the stakes-winning son of Awesome Again, is set to shuttle again for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season to stand at Haras Santa Sara in Santiago, Chile.

The deal to shuttle was brokered by Sullivan Bloodstock in Chile in conjunction with Matt Bowling Bloodstock in Lexington, KY. Awesome Patriot shuttled to Haras Santa Sara in 2014, which was also his first season standing stud in the U.S.

“The South American market, and Chile in particular, has begun trending more recently towards strong American bloodlines than in the past,” said Bowling. “With his impeccable pedigree, Awesome Patriot fulfills this need for Chilean breeders.”

A $350,000 yearling, Awesome Patriot is by emerging sire of sires Awesome Again, and out of the mare Tizamazing – a $1 million yearling herself, and a full sister to two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) champion and leading sire Tiznow. Awesome Patriot’s full brother is 2013 Preakness (G1) winner Oxbow, and the immediate family includes Grade 1 winner Paynter, who is also by Awesome Again and hails from the mare Tizso – a full sister to Awesome Patriot’s dam, Tizamazing.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Awesome Patriot won his debut as a 2-year-old at Hollywood Park, defeating the likes of Grade 1 winner Coil. He became graded stakes-placed in the Hollywood Prevue S. (G3) before stretching his speed around two turns to win a one-mile allowance race at Santa Anita in 1:35 flat as a juvenile. At 3, Awesome Patriot won the Alydar S. at 1 1/8 miles at Hollywood, earning a 97 Beyer.

Awesome Patriot just completed his second season at stud at Spendthrift in Lexington, where he stood for a fee of $3,500 stands and nurses and is a participant in Spendthrift’s Share The Upside and Breed Secure programs. His fee during the 2015 Southern Hemisphere breeding season has yet to be determined.
