Beholder cruises in 2014 debut

Spendthrift Farm's two-time champion Beholder galloped to an easy-as-it-looked 5 1/4-length victory in the Santa Lucia S. on Easter Sunday at Santa Anita Park in her 2014 debut.

The two-time Breeders' Cup winner toyed with her competition in the 8 1/2-furlong contest, stalking in second under regular rider Gary Stevens for first half-mile, then pulled clear under her own power, finishing up in 1:42.67 without any urging.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Beholder has now won nine of 13 starts, earning $3,123,300.

Beholder's spring goal is the $1 million Ogden Phipps (G1) at Belmont Park as part of the undercard for the third leg of the Triple Crown on June 7.
