Malibu Moon colt rings big bell at OBS 2YO sale

Tuesday, March 12, 2013
Bidders saw plenty to like from the offspring of Malibu Moon during the first day of the March 12-13 OBS Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in central Florida, including a colt that brought $370,000, the second-highest figure of the first session. All told, the Spendthrift stallion had three juveniles sell, each bringing six figures.

Hip No. 120, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent, was the star of the day after the high bid of Polo Green Stable, agent. The colt worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at the under tack preview and he is headed to Japan for an undisclosed owner.

“We’ve always liked this colt,” said Matt Lyons, general manager of Woodford Thoroughbreds. “With this being the first 2-year-old sale for Woodford Thoroughbreds, we’re very pleased to get off to a good start.”

Halcyon Hammock Farm, agent consigned hip No. 48, who brought a winning bid of $185,000 from trainer Mark Casse, agent. The dark bay colt comes from a terrific family; his dam Runaway Ransom is a half-sister to Malibu Moon's multiple Grade 1 winner Devil May Care and Grade 2 Super Derby winner Regal Ransom.

Hip No. 137, from the de Meric Sales, agent, consignment was purchased for $145,000 by Bradley Thoroughbreds LLC, agent. The Kentucky-bred filly is out of the Grade 3 winning mare Virden.
