The Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale annually features some of the best bred young horses in the country, and none brought more attention in the auction ring than a striking dark bay or brown colt by Spendthrift's perennial top-10 stallion Malibu Moon. The final hammer price of $375,000 was $75,000 more than any other horse at the Tuesday sale held in Lexington, Ky.

Consigned by CandyLand, agent, as Hip No. 86, the colt was bought by trainer Kenny McPeek, agent, on behalf of Montana-based Magic City Thoroughbreds.

McPeek, who trained the Malibu Moon colt's winning dam, Uncontrollable said, "I thought this colt was a better version of his dam. She stamps her foals—she's already had some quality foals and obviously this is another one."

McPeek was referring to the previous three of Uncontrollable's foals, who are six-figure earners. Her first two offspring, Southern Truth and Meistersinger are stakes placed.
