Malibu Moon

Sunday, September 15, 2013
Malibu Moon's 4-year-old son Managed Account proved the best by a head in Saturday's $75,000 DTHA Governor's Day S. following a back and forth battle with Warrioroftheroses that last for nearly the entire 1 mile and 70 yard trip (VIDEO).

Managed Account emerged on top in deep stretch after a race-long tussle that saw the lead exchange hands several times, including inside the eighth-mile pole. The victory, in a quick 1:40.84, gave Managed Account his second black-type win in his career and improved his bankroll to $232,683.

Owned by Midwest Thoroughbreds and trained by Jamie Ness, the Pennsylvania-bred was a $110,000 buy out of the 2011 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale. His dam Catinca was one the top distaffers of the late 1990s, racking up $864,775 with her stakes wins in the Ruffian H. (G1), Shuvee H. (G2), and Top Flight H. (G2) among her six graded victories.

Malibu Moon, ranked fourth on the General Sire List of 2013, has nine stakes winners that have won 14 added-money events, five of them graded winners, led by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb.
