Notional colt starts fireworks early at Fasig-Tipton

Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Buyers were eager to get their hands on a yearling colt by Notional early on at the Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale, with a winning bid of $140,000 coming from Nick de Meric, agent for hip No. 2 from the Van Meter Sales Agent consignment.

The final figure was the highest price paid in 2012 for a yearling from the Spendthrift stallion's second crop. Notional was a winner all three years he raced, consistently facing top-class competition and coming away with victories in the San Rafael S. (G2), Risen Star S. (G3), and Salvator Mile H. (G3).

Hip No. 2, a bay colt bred in Kentucky, is the second foal out of Raisa. Her 2-year-old of 2012 has not started. Raisa is a half-sister to Indian Charlie, winner of the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and third in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
