Tiz Wonderful colt earns diploma at Gulfstream

Acclaim, a 3-year-old Tiz Wonderful colt, overcame a few anxious moments in the stretch to break his maiden Sunday at Gulfstream Park, capping off an excellent week for his sire.

Tiz Wonderful had three maiden winners the past seven days, along with My Happy Face running an excellent second in the $200,000 Forward Gal S., the first start for the 3-year-old filly on her quest for the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Acclaim was well in hand down the backstretch in the seven furlong contest as he sat just off the flank of the pacesetter Ocean City. With no prompting from his rider, he put away that foe on the turn and opened up about four lengths with a furlong to go. Though he was running out in the middle of the track in deep stretch, Acclaim had enough to hold off the late charge of Ruble by a half-length, who was a dozen lengths in front of the show horse.

The winner, a dark bay colt bred by Michael Jester, is out of Miss Elusive, a half-sister to Inside Information S. (G2) winner Warbling and listed winner Arianna's Passion.
