Warrior's Reward moves to top spot on Freshman Sire list

Warrior's Reward

Saturday, August 09, 2014
Requite sauntered to a 3 1/2-length maiden special weight score Saturday at Saratoga; the seventh winner from Warrior's Reward's first crop. Remarkably, all seven have won in their career debuts.

The winner's purse of $49,800 lifted Warrior's Reward's progeny earnings to $354,163, tops on the 2014 Freshman Sire list. He is also the only first-year sire with more than two stakes horses.

Requite sprang right out of the gate to assume command by a length and a half in the first 100 yards. Controlling the pace around the turn, Joe Rocco let the bay colt out at the top of the stretch to pull away from the field. He completed the 5 1/2-furlongs in a very solid 1:04.44 on a fast track (VIDEO).

Owned by his breeder Bermuda Limestone Thoroughbreds, Requite is the third winner in as many foals out of the Carson City mare New Hope Seven, a five-time stakes-placed mare from the same family as 1974 champion 3-year-old colt Little Current.
